1. Measure – Align – ReMeasure – ReAlign
Every digital transformation journey begins with measuring where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow. Having a clear vision of the desired result is of utmost importance. Measuring plan vs. actuals at every milestone should become second nature, and reviewing, recording progress, and aligning resources to the ultimate destination is the mantra to success.
2. Cross-functional effort
Digital transformation initiatives must always have alignment with business goals. Management, business, and IT involvement can help create the magical trifecta of vision, user acceptance, and infrastructure alignment. Creating a cross-functional team in your center of excellence is an excellent idea. Different verticals now face the challenges that other verticals face hands-on, thus encouraging collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders.
3. Get-Set-Redo
Go-live is the favorite terminology of every sponsor. However, check, re-check, and if required, re-re-check before you hit the power button. Along with the system’s transformation, 3 critical things within your organization need transformation – people, culture, and process. Writing a new SOP is not good enough, and a pop-up alert on every employee’s LMS screen is not enough. The users must be on board with the change to successfully implement a digital transformation. The new system must not affect any dependent activity, potential risks must be mitigated, and so much more.
Last Word
While digital transformation is the need of the hour, refrain from taking the initiative just because it looks good on paper. Change works where the use cases are more, ROI is high, and footfalls are heavy. Everything else is just a frame on the wall.
